The Panacea Financial Foundation Awards 6 Scholarships in Spring 2024 Application Cycle

Since its inception in 2021, the Panacea Financial Foundation has awarded grants and scholarships to more than 100 students and trainees

LITTLE ROCK, Arkansas — The Panacea Financial Foundation, a non-profit dedicated to expanding ethnic and racial diversity within the medical field, is honored to announce the six recipients selected for medical school scholarships in the spring 2024 application cycle.

The Panacea Financial Foundation, a 501(c)(3) organization, offers scholarships and grants to underrepresented minority medical students, residents, and fellows and has awarded more than $230,000 to 107 individuals since its founding in 2021.

Applications for Panacea Financial Foundation medical school scholarships were received from across the country and were blind-reviewed by the foundation’s selection committee across five criteria. Recipients were chosen based on their demonstrated dedication to advancing healthcare and community well-being, with each scholarship awardee receiving $5,000 to support their education.

The winners are:

  • George Heredia, MS1 at UCLA David Geffen School of Medicine

“This opens up the door to advancing my commitment, both professionally and academically, to the underserved community. In particular, being able to put myself in spaces such as conferences, research symposiums, and trainings to better understand the intersection of integrated medicine, equitable healthcare, and the multifaceted business components of the healthcare field.”

  • Laura Jackson, PhD, MS3 at University of Kansas School of Medicine

“Especially when you are trying to build a community of colleagues around you that are underrepresented in medicine, the barriers are high and the road is long. Creating these relationships are unbelievably important to matching into our chosen specialty. I want to treat underserved populations that have been historically discriminated against in this country.”

  • Ana Golla, MS2 at University of Missouri School of Medicine

“This scholarship will allow me to fully immerse in my global health experience in Dominican Republic, where I will be working with physicians in delivering holistic healthcare to underserved communities as well as addressing some of the barriers in accessing healthcare.”

  • Alejandra Silva Hernandez, MPH, MS2 at University of Washington School of Medicine

“Thanks to the Panacea Financial Foundation, I will be able to bring medical care to vulnerable communities. I will also be taking Step 1 this year, and having the financial support of this scholarship will make me that much more confident to getting one step closer to becoming a surgeon.”

  • Hannah Clarke, MPH, MS3 at Sidney Kimmel Medical College at Jefferson University
  • Channelle Ndagire, MD-MPP candidate at UCLA David Geffen School of Medicine

Jeral Self, PhD, MPH, Executive Director of the Panacea Financial Foundation, said, “At the heart of this year’s scholarship recipients is a shared vision for a healthier, more equitable future. These students are not only dedicated to excelling in medicine but also to uplifting the underserved and marginalized. We are confident that their passion and resilience will lead to transformative change in the communities they touch, now and for years to come.”
